Watched this on Netflix Instant two nights ago. The documentary focuses on the closing of independent record stores around 2008/2009 and there is some good reporting on the trickle down effect created by record companies decades ago and how - essentially - the industry is causing it’s own demise. Now, in 2012, iTunes has released its Mastered for iTunes Collection which could push the independent record store into further oblivion.
The documentary has some good insights from musicians and record store owners, but I would have liked to see some industry people try to defend themselves on tape.
Anyone who collects vinyl, CDs, cassettes, etc. or just loves music should watch and form an opinion. Will the record store survive?
